So, I find myself walking down the street I never know who I am going meet Looking up at the people staring loud Wishing they’d keep their whistleblowing down, down, down, down, down… Who am I to you What makes you think you can talk the way you do And who are you, anyway I wanna hide my face From the voices shouting all around Sometimes I just wanna fall to the ground And shield my eyes from this disguise And blow away So, you find yourself waking in the night Your dreams are telling me you’re not alright There’s alarm bells ringing everywhere But you can’t hear a thing except the sound, sound, sound, sound, sound…of me asking Who am I to you...

Forever Love 03:29
Oh, what we got is a love so strong I thank God every day, that you came along And I don’t know who I was before You came walking thru my door You’re the reason I keep getting up each day You’re the reason I’m singing this song You’re the reason I live for each morning and night You bring me into the light Across the sky and over the moon Yeah, I really fell in love with you You looked over and won my heart Nothing will ever keep us apart Now, you’ll be a father And I’ll be a mother We’re jumping over the cliff, reaching stars And crossing our hearts This FOREVER LOVE it came our way This Forever Love will never, ever betray This Forever Love is here to stay It’s never going away I fell I really fell in love with you Nothing will ever keep us apart
3.
Runaway 02:19
She’s my little runaway, come seeking fortune and fame From the darkness she rides these feelings inside you can’t explain Over in the corner you wait for her You don’t understand her but you know that it’s all absurd And, if you hear my little runaway, whisper come catch me if you can She’s diamond rings and finer things, she’s stylish, she’s always in demand You’re shaking now, you’re worried You’ll no longer make that scene Everything you wanted is breaking at the seams What’s left of tomorrow, a projection on a screen There’s ONE more future, Now, hear them laugh, hear them laughing… Yeah, you win If you see my little runaway I need her back every night We were once together and now she doesn’t even spend the night I need a fix from you once in awhile When I need someone, I can call you my child I wish that I was never in denial I’ll put you back, I’ll put you back but that never happened now, It’s gone Yeah, it’s gone
4.
High heels in hiding Eyeshadow dancing in dark places Who’s gonna tell us what it means? Maybe she won’t come back out to play There’s something wrong with this picture There’s something wrong There’s something wrong with this picture Was what you said for real? My head was spinning from the ecstasy I was feeling you I saw her too When I awoke the next day You looked the same as you always do I went about my business til the thick haze it clouded my brain… Who’s gonna tell us what it means and just how far will it Go, I don’t know, I don’t know Did he really mean what he said…yesterday There’s something wrong with this picture I think I knew she was coming someday soon Who are you now, and who does that make me? Somewhere deep down inside I’m not all that surprised, anyway There’s something wrong with this picture
5.
Like Lions 02:51
Remember how we ruled the world You and I ran free Just you and me, you and me Yeah, remember how we roared like lions The world was ours to see Just you and me. Two roaming freaks Yeah, we’re living in a complicated mess We’re just trying to make the best of it Remember how we ruled the world Crazy tho it seems, You still want me. Do you still want me? Now, we’re caged in a world of hurt Telling all our friends You aren’t a He, you’re just a She Well, we’re living in a complicated mess I’m trying to make the best of it It’s still you and me It’s different so we’ll see You know we’re not as free as we were It’s a big world
6.
Cramped and crowded in a falling down shack Or living like a king and a queen in a palace made for three The way I saw it yesterday ain’t the way I see it today Sometimes I can’t believe I’m still just sitting in this place Give it to me straight Am I falling apart Or have I picked up the pieces Met some folks who measured life by what a person lacks But I get more when I stand tall and take my power back Rescue me from towers high I’ve got so much more to give I’ll let my hair down waiting for my riches to come in some day Give it to me straight Am I falling apart Or have I picked up the pieces again? Give it to me straight From the heart I’ve got a story to tell Pay to pave my way By hitting the keys Good intentions are my best friend That’s how it works you’ll see If you only believe Manifest your destiny…
7.
Cannonball 03:39
Like a cannonball Under water, in control Like a cannonball In the water, nothing to hold Like a cannonball Running faster, all alone Like a cannonball, Near disaster, stole my hope Like a cannonball, All the answers, I don’t know Like a cannonball Flying past her, nothing to hold
8.
You’ve been my friend so many years I can’t pretend And I didn’t know where you left off and I began I didn’t notice that the space inside had changed You’re needing something now that I might not be able to give Behind your eyes…you’re still alive When you touch me you feel the same damn way you always have But I open my eyes and see a different kind of man You’re stripping away the things I love they’re dead and gone But you’re still alive and I’m confused about which way I should run Cause behind your eyes… you’re still alive We cannot pretend This might be the end I’m holding on to the space between the lies, the truth This life I want to defend The more you become you, means I lose me And we just fade away We cannot pretend This might be the end
9.
This Picture 03:00
For so long these walls were caving in on me every day Could better times be here, be here to stay? In your sweet eyes I-wanna-see the answer to everything Your light inside’s so bright, why can’t I see? I just don’t know, I don’t know how to love you anymore I don’t know how to adore you anymore I really wanna hold your hand I want to understand Will we be together my friend until the end? There’s something wrong with this picture Oh, together my friend until the end There might be something wrong with this picture I could walk away, well that’d be crazy Walking away’d be crazier than simply staying We can put our pieces back together Cause, you’re the only one I want to need I’m not afraid…We cannot pretend I’m not afraid…This might be the end I’m holding on to all our dreams I think I understand Is there something wrong with this picture?

The Secret 03:30
Here we are where love is it at home Where we connect, without exteriors – in our bones Even though we stare in this mirror – an image of us Might fade into dust out where we settle Back in the warmth of our embrace Our love might leave a trace of who we are …or who we’ve always been You might look different now but through this lens The feelings stay the same -- this secret in you Revealed the secret in us we cannot hide, and what We share behind closed doors, our real closet The walls of our home Staring back at each other Daring us to be together Celebrating the real you Coming out into the light…the light Your secret is why you’re so alive This is what we do now, over and over Again and again, make no mistake Our truth, it’s me and you again It’s the only answer we’re able to give …This is how we live
11.
I used to know a girl that looks like you She bought herself a guitar, she could get in tune She was labeled dangerous and a bit confused With her lipstick and her best high heel shoes She was always happier when she sang the blues I used to know a girl that looks like you The real boys would welcome her home from school They headed down and taught her a lesson or two About what the real world thinks of you Get up, get up, take it like a man I wasn’t happy, I was wrong not to tell you then I wasn’t happy, I was wrong not to tell you I wasn’t happy, I was wrong not to tell you then I wasn't happy
12.
Over the marionette Who’s over the marionette Who’s pulling the strings Over the marionette Who’s over the marionette The essence of her is bleeding It’s thick Bleeding. It’s thick Bleeding… To know her, is to see her. To release her. To feel. To free her Over the marionette Over the marionette Who’s pulling the strings Who’s making her tick Bleeding…it’s thick Your mom doesn’t mind, you put on a dress Decorate yourself the way you see fit It’s time to break out, express yourself Take a deep breathe and decide to just pull off That tight, tight net To know her, is to see her. To release her. To feel. To free her
13.
The Reins 03:47
You came along one day and surprised me And I finally felt so alive Now I know, the rules are changing Nothing ever stays the same And I know, I keep spinning in circles Until you call my name You tell me to let it go, take it easy Like those birds above I should fly But I know, letting go of the reins Means rising above the pain And I know, the future remains to be seen But you’ll always be a part of me You always said you wouldn’t hurt me You never knew you would hurt me this way And I don’t wanna desert you So, I’ll hold on one more day Yeah, your truth brought me so much pain But yours might be greater than my own So now it’s got to be my back That goes up against the wall It’s like I’m spinning in circles Oh…then you call my name And I don’t want you to worry So, I’m giving you the reins…. Oh, we might be living on borrowed time But for now, you’re all mine… You’re still all mine, all mine, all mine, all mine, all mine You came along one day and surprised me
14.
Didn’t see you coming I didn’t know that I was waiting for you You and me we played pretend I didn’t realize I’d feel so much older I turn around and begin again And I’m so much older than you my friend You were the perfect distraction, a decent escape The laws of attraction, the name of our game We broke all the rules and left me here to savor Each move that we made, in our make-believe game In this game that we played Meeting you was just fate Didn’t see you coming I didn’t know that I was waiting for you
15.
He helped me open my eyes I flashbacked to simpler times I could breathe and feel alive Unencumbered, remembering what is mine I found you again, in a stranger’s face And he showed me the way, back to your embrace Time has a way of erasing Something good, so why not replace it with Togetherness, facing tides Riding waves of how much I love you and why I found you again, in a stranger’s face And he showed me the way, back to your embrace And I remembered who I was, and who we once were together That our love is still as strong, just battered by the weather I got lost along the way, But I realize now, it’s a brand, new day Yeah, that spark is still there The fire we ignited is everywhere This fire we ignited I found you again, in a stranger’s face And he showed me the way, back to your embrace And I remembered who I was, and who we once were together That our love is still as strong, Our love is still as strong, Our love is still as strong, just battered by the weather
16.
You just wanted to be friends, until the bitter end You just wanted to be loved, oh if we had only known That you always felt this way, even though you didn’t say I can feel the real you, it was that something inside wasn’t It took awhile to accept, and time for you to act I lost the man I used to know, inside a woman that I don’t And all the people that we know, they’re waiting for you to grow To be the girl you wanna be, it didn’t come for free You’re here, you feel, the real thing She’s here, you see, the real thing Now where you gonna go, with your dress solo Shining all your pretty lights, a side of you, you used to hide And, as to what the neighbors say, as they watch you walk away I want them all to understand, I still love you the same and… You’re here (you’re here), you feel (you feel), the real thing (real thing) She’s here, you see, the real thing My happy ever afters with you And I don’t care if anybody asks me to prove Cause you are the only one who always has my back Without you I’d lose everything that I am I am…I am Oh, everything I am…I am She’s here, you see, the real thing She’s here, with me, the real thing The real thing

about

SHe Said is a concept album and theatrical production about gender identity and transition. The double album encompasses Ayers’ signature blend of piano-driven 70’s soul/pop meets rock-n-roll with dynamic, soaring vocals and is a nod to classic rock operas (The Wall, Tommy) and gender-bending musicals (Hedwig). The result: epic, heart-wrenching headphone candy. Producer Jeff Fielder managed to capture Jen in a bottle over a year-long, pandemic collaboration – seamlessly bringing together her retro influences with a fresh twist and nods to the circus.
