about

Runaway is the second single from Jen Ayers’ new album/show SHe Said. The tune is co-written with, and features, her partner Graham Ayers on lead vocals – a love letter to the self with gender identity exploration via glam-rock infused musings, crunchy guitars, a driving beat and a deer in the headlight back-up singer. Two minutes of garage punky perfection.

lyrics

She’s my little runaway, come seeking fortune and fame
From the darkness she rides these feelings inside you can’t explain
Over in the corner you wait for her
You don’t understand her but you know that it’s all absurd

And, if you hear my little runaway, whisper come catch me if you can
She’s diamond rings and finer things, she’s stylish, she’s always in demand
You’re shaking now, you’re worried
You’ll no longer make that scene
Everything you wanted is breaking at the seams
What’s left of tomorrow, a projection on a screen
There’s ONE more future,
Now, hear them laugh, hear them laughing…

Yeah, you win

If you see my little runaway I need her back every night
We were once together and now she doesn’t even spend the night
I need a fix from you once in awhile
When I need someone, I can call you my child
I wish that I was never in denial
I’ll put you back, I’ll put you back but that never happened now,

It’s gone
Yeah, it’s gone
